These are really 27.6" tall, but close enough to 28" for argument sake. Visit http://www.volkswagen.org/tiresize.htm for figuring this sort of stuff out.

Anyhow, I have 225/60 16" tires on my Syncro (26.6") and the difference over stock is a marginal power loss. At 100km/h (true) my tach 3200 RPM which is about a 5% drop. I can't really say anything about fuel economy other than I am getting 13L/100km with my 2.0L Audi engine installed and dragging around my canvas canopy. It seems I am getting better economy since I removed it.

The biggest problem with the larger tires is stopping. There is a little more efffort required. Nothing dangerours, but slightly noticeable. This fall I am installing 215/70 16" (27.8") tires on my Syncro so as you can see I'm really worried about this! :)
