David: I'll try to answer some of Mr. Alexanders' questions, as I am an expert on the origins and usage of the word, "hoser".

"Hoser", is a colloquial, pejorative Canadian term, used to describe a person of lesser status, a lazy person who mooches cigarettes and beer from regular people.

It is an anglicization of the Yiddish word "Chasser", which means a piggy person, or a low person, or a greedy person, or a person with extreme appetites. However, english-speaking people find the true pronunciation difficult, as the sound the "Ch", when properly spoken, is almost a throat-clearing sound. This phoneme is not present in the english language.

Hence the "Ch" sound is most easily approximated by a "Ha" sound. That is how "Hoser" came from the Yiddish "Chasser".

It was popularized on a Canadian television show, called SCTV, in one of their skits called "The Great White North", hosted by Bob and Doug Mackenzie. This skit was a farce, poking fun at Canadian stereotypes for people who love cigarrettes, beer, bacon and hockey.

Now, onto Canadian Bacon. Here, there is no Canadian Bacon, anywhere. Up here in Canada, we don't raise pigs, as they are too hard to keep in igloos.
