Having owned my 88 Syncro for a fairly short length of time, it's increasingly obvious that it might end up a real money pit (165k miles). I do enjoy the vehicle (apart from the performance of the 1.9 carbed engine!). One main reason for buying the Vanagon was to have it converted to a full camper. I know that I'll never recover the cost of the conversion should I sell the vehicle and I don't want any major repairs when I have trips to make, so I'm half contemplating replacing it with something newer. One possible replacement I have seen advertised is a 1995 T4 Transporter (Eurovan) Syncro which I could get converted. It would still give me the 4x4 capability (although primarily front wheel drive). I believe that this particular vehicle has the 2.5 TDi motor (very gutsy). I know that it doesn't have the kudos of the Vanagon.

Persuade me that I might be doing the wrong thing! :-)
