I have a bit of experience with home CO detectors that might help eliminate some models. We had a First Alert model NICO (battery operated) false alarm every few days within a month after buying it. We thought there might be a real CO problem since we had just installed a vent-free fireplace, so we called the gas company.

The gas company came out with their high-tech CO sniffers and determined that the problem was not anything in our house, but that First Alert CO detectors are junk. They recommended Nighthawk brand. We got one and it's been fine. It has an LED PPM readout and did detect when I ran my motorcycle in the garage (door open, of course) and some CO crept into the house, so we know it's working.

I don't know if Nighthawk makes a battery operated model.

Regards,

-Karl
