Subject: Re: Tires

Just a reminder for you tire seekers out there.

If you want to stay with a 185R14 reinforced (roughly equivalent to load range C), a tire which is quite similar to the Michelin XZX 185R14 reinforced that VW equipped my '84 GL with is the Continental Metric Contac. It is about $55 from various sources.

Having used both since my Vanagon was new, I chose a reinforced tire since it usually is quieter than a light truck tire and usually has a smoother ride.

I have had the Conti's for about 6 months and find that they do exactly what I'd like my tires to do. However, I cannot provide scientific evidence that they have better traction or pick up more members of the preferred sex than Michelin or any other brand.

Mike
