That's what your manufacturer (VW) recommends for your vehicle:-)

97 is the Load Index for a tire capable of carrying a maximum load of 1609 lb.

R is the Speed Rating (107mph? can't remember what was note I posted about this some time ago...)

"Reinforced" is, of course, the sidewall construction...

This is the **modern** tire rating system which replaces the old Load Range ratings.
