Subject: Paint codes...
Content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

It would seem that the "perfect" bus I bought in January is something less than perfect when it comes to matters of body, paint, and rust. I can't determine if the PO covered up the rust spots with a coat of paint, or the place I bought it from just dabbed some touch-up over the rust. Regardless, there's now several places where rust is showing through the paint. And some of it looks a little concerning.

So, in short, a paint job is in the not-too-distant future for Phred. I went to a place that wholesales paint and bodywork supplies to try to get some ideas, maybe a little insight in to doing the repaint myself. Bottom line, I don't have the time or experience to make it a DIY project - I'd probably make it worse, not better. When looking through some of the colour books they have, I noticed that there are some official VW colours for Vanagons that look too close to tell one from the other. My question; Is there a listing of the colour codes for Vanagons that can be found somewhere other than the dealer?

Oh, and does anyone know what the paint code and official name for the dark Burgundy Metallic paint that was offered in '88? The label with the code is missing from under the dash of my bus.

Alan Bosch Phred ('88 Wolfsburg)
