Hi Leif,

If you want to see how your personalized message would look on an actual license plate, check out this Virginia DMV web site http://www.dmv.state.va.us/webdoc/v-trans.htm . Follow the "look for a personalized license plate" link. You can pick different plate styles to see how they look. All the plates are Virginia ones, but you still be able to see if that catchy phrase you want to use looks decent on a real plate (unless your phrase has already been issued in Virginia).

You may want to see if your state has a similar web site. It will save some frustation when you find out that all of your cool plate ideas are already taken.
