I have the same model as you but an '88 and believe me, mine performs like a slug on sleeping tablets. I've had it tuned twice now and it still doesn't perform any better. I'm now seriously considering a 5 cyl replacement (if I don't go the T4 Syncro route).

Whereabouts in England are you? My van is in Dublin but it'll be back in England next week and you'd be welcome to drive mine.
