I run 10w40 in the winter and 20w50 in the summer with a Mahle or Mann filter. BTW Fram sells the same filter for the Golf/Jetta motor as the Wasserboxer. This is the WRONG filter, don't use it. Mann and Mahle have unique filters for the Vanagon and the Golf/Jetta, the Vanagon filter does not have the valve at the top of the can. The correct Mahle filter is the OC-108, I don't remember the Mann PN but it too does not have this valve.
