the PO must have just given you the valet key.  ask him for the main key.
the valet key wont open the trunk or glovebox.   are you sure you're opening
the lock right? turn key to the right, and push the button.
never heard of "grit on the rings". :<)
no audi parts will fit your van tho, you could prolly adapt those power seats
if youre bored :<)
the reason your vanagon clock is constantly cycling is that your little
button is jammed in too far, (somebody got alittle too overzealous with the
ballpoint pen, eh?)  and got stuck behind the plastic face panel. easy fix.
