I'm planning to do this mod. and I WILL take out the head liner so that I can cut a straighter hole for the light and place the metal backing and rivet in place. I don't know how you'd get the metal backing in place with out removing the liner. AN while its out you can wash it, and maybe paint it. Malcolm S
