OK, fellow list members - first posting. I wondered about a want add - in the midst of all the info -- but noticed a previous request to sell so I figured no one would object if I wanted to buy.

Background - happy owner of that rarity among rarities - an '82 GL diesel (this was the experiment that made life easier for you wasserboxer drivers). Love it. I also have another boxer - but that is the dog (real dog).

Grew up with (among other things) a '58 microbus and a '68 station wagon.

Looking for a late model good condition Vanagon GL for me to drive. I am in El Paso, Texas so anyplace in Texas or the southwestern US is cool. Have an excellent VW shop in town. Don't care for the Westy - sorry, fans. Just need a gas engine 5 speed with all the "goodies" and preferably with AC for me to keep up and drive for primary daily use after the event listed below.

The '82 diesel goes to the 15 year son in the next six months after a paint job, a new stereo system (ideas, recommendations anyone?) and last month's engine rebuilt.

Just so you know that there are other unconventional VW lover's out there - the son noted above is the youngest of eight - the other seven are girls and I am a (so-called) "reactionary" LDS (Mormon) living on the US/Mexican border working as the Director of Operations for a large trucking company.

Don't think I don't catch it when I drive up in my Diesel Vanagon - all 96 cubic inches (about the size of ONE cylinder on our big Cat and Cummins diesel tractor engines).

But I love it - keeps the natives on their toes.

Send me some leads, ladies and gentlemen. I need another Vanagon for a father/son duo. After all, it runs in the family.

Thanks to all.

Cousin David in El Paso (habitual sign off - I do a lot of family history research on line as well).
