I have an 87 Audi 5000S myself...the sad thing is that there are 4 lock on
the car and I have 4 different keys (definately not normal).  You might just
not have the key (one key should open everything except for valet key in
which case you can have a "normal" key made from the valet key at you local
hardware store)

An Audi 5000 trans that "won't shift to high gear" indicates that the trans
is shot.  I'm afraid that no adjusting can fix it.  The clutch pack drums,
after about 150,000 miles tend to warp causing the fluid to leak past the
seals...causing a lack of pressure to achieve 3rd gear.  (Mine is being
changed out as we speak!!!)

There are a few generic VW parts you may be able to use (ie: turn signal
relay)...but I'm not sure about the clock.  Worse case senerio, pull both of
them and compare.
