Yep, no one seems to be able to make a reliable pressure type brake switch anymore. A couple of years ago I bought a brand new master complete with switches and they were both bad right out of the box! The replacements lasted exactly 30,000 miles, (I just replaced them a month ago.) Now I check my brake lights frequently and carry two spare switches. At least they are cheap and easy to replace, but I would pay more for ones that would last. (Note, if your lights don't work, both switches are bad.)

Also, I have had the same problem with my '65 MGB, but I was able to update it with a mechanical switch. I have not figured out how to do that on the Vanagon--yet!
