Hi Bulley,
    Ok GM which vanagon owners manual do you have that is suggesting 10w40
as acceptable oil for a vanagon? It is not in any of my water cooled
operators manuals. The bentley bible oil chart on c17, v8 doesn't list it
either.  Few if any car manufactures recommend 10w40 as acceptable motor oil
for the last 10 -15 years. I agree with your 20-50 but switch to 10w30 or
5w30 in winter.
