Umm, According to my Haynes, there are two types of hub nuts, with two different torque ratios. One nut has six (6) cotter pin grooves, tighten to 350Nm/258 lbft. The other nut has ten (10) grooves, this nut should be tightened to 500Nm/360lbft. In addition, the Haynes explains that VW recommends that all 6-groove nuts should be replaced by new 10-groove nuts, and tightened to 500Nm. I didn't tighten my nut that hard, I'm sure. I just gave it all I got, and installed the cotter pin. A friend of mine thought it was more than sufficient, he is used to torqueing 100mm nuts to 7000Nm at the factory he works at. I haven't had any problems with this nut after I tightened it.
