Just remembered that I have a yellow metal Vanagon with a sliding door, about the size of a computer mouse that I picked up at the gift shop in the VW museum in Wolfsburg. Not sure which trip that was, either '83 or '85. The reason that I didn't think about it until now is that it's still at my mom's house. Yet another thing to remember to get next time I'm home!
