Subject: Wide Rims = Stability?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII

Regarding the long thread about tires (which I only come in on the middle of):

I've been thinking about wider rims which would allow wider tires. Would this increase stability of the vehicle, or whould it be tougher on the vehicle, especially on turns when it wants to roll onto the sidewall and can't?

And if so, does anyone make wide rims that fit a Vanagon (85 GL)? And if so, what's a good tire?

I've seen pictures of the Californa dudes that have decked out busses, and many have added wider tires. But alot of those people have also lowered the suspension and done other custom modifications. Essentially, what's the deal? Can it be done without thousands of dollars of other mods?

What is the width of the standard rim? Five inches or 6?
