I respectfully disagree.  Perhaps this was the case for Trabis, which I
believe was a stolen Fiat design (think about that!), but not everything.
My counterexample, while not automotive, is an East German Makarov pistol.
Excellent machining, fit, finish and reliability.  A design improvement
over the West German Walther; they make look similar, but the internals
are all ComBloc design.

I imagine that a number of German craftsmen were trapped behind the line,
as were some of my relatives.  Many continued to do what they had always
done.
