Karl, I towed my recently purchased '82 Westy backwards on a tow dolly about 75 miles. The only problem that I encountered was some tailwhip (and subsequent buttocks clenching) at speeds over 45 mph. Since the majority of the weight was on the dolly, I attribute this to the Westy's front wheels not being kept absolutely straight. I had tied the wheel as best as I could, but there was still some slack and when I got home, there was even more do to loosening of the ropes. If I had to do it again, I would get an auto transport/flatbed trailer as the only other option would be to remove the axle shafts and tow it facing forward and I don't get warm fuzzies about that weight balance situation.

Is there a reason not to put the rear wheels up on a dolly and tow a 2WD van backwards with the front wheels on the ground? I know Bentley sez not to pick up watercooled with a towtruck in the back due to some damaged, but it's OK for the aircooled.
