Jim,

I installed a rear anti-sway bar from JC Whiffme; they stock Hellwig sway bars. Listed in index under Anti-sway bars. JC has a special order service at (312)-431-6188 to order ones that aren't specically listed in their catalog, ie. Vanagon.

The Vanagon comes with a factory front bar, which is quite beefy. I added the aftermarket rear unit; you must drill some holes in the frame and suspension members to bolt it on.

I also installed a Sachs/Boge lowering kit at the same time, and together they absolutely tranformed the handling/cross wind resistance. I'm pretty sure the spring/shock combo was the most important change, so I can't really say how much the rear anti-sway contributes to improvements. But for $95 why not?

I was talking with a know-it-all mechanic friend who only works on domestics and he was making fun of my Westy and telling me "if its a decent vehicle in that weight category it would come with one from the factory". Being less then a master mechanic myself, and unfamiliar with this bar I don't know #1 if it came stock on all Westys, #2 what one looks like, #3 where its mounted, #4 exactly how it works, #4 front or rear or both, #5 where to buy one if I need one (somebody said JC Whipme but I'm not finding one there). Can anybody help a clueless owner like me out? > > Jim in Iowa > 91 Passat Wagon GL > 89 Westy (and a seasick wife) > 66 Beetle >
