Scott, I know some German tuners put TD intercoolers in the wheel well, but I do not consider this as an optimal solution because of road spray etc. One other place that you could consider is the intake grille at the sides of the van. These sits right in the air flow, as these were originally used to suck cooling air for the air cooled Vanagons.
