Actually, I've thought quite a bit (more than I should admit) about putting the 5cyl in the loaf busses. Plenty of room, certainly don't need to worry about deck height. The air scoops should provide plenty of flow thru a radiator (and intercooler???). Just need to get hardened tranny gears, maybe upgrade the cv joints, put some gauges in, and down the road you go, rapidly. 'course, just recently I had the opportunity to drive a '77 loaf. I guess my Vanagon has spoiled me more than I thought. Now I can hardly believe I drove my '78 all the places I did. What a difference.
