Hello Listees! After enjoying myself at the Trenton Computer Fair on Saturday, I headed home and ran into some strong crosswinds on the New Jersey Turnpike. The steering felt a little loose. Figuring it was low pressure in the tires (and it was), I pulled into a service station and discovered I was at least 10 Lbs of pressure lower than I should be in each tire. Adding air fixed the problem and stiffened the ride, which I prefer. HOWEVER; As I'm putting air into the Passenger side Front - I see in the wheel well, a white plastic thingie (excuse the tech talk) with two thin rubber hoses - except one of them is disconnected and hanging by itself. I assume this might be part of the fuel system (the fumes evaporator?) because the hoses are either vacuum tubes or fuel lines. It's also right next to the fuel tank as far as I can tell (I'm still a newbie to the Vanagon). Now, I tried pushing the line back into the plastic nipple it's supposed to attach to, but it seems that the nipple itself has broken off and it sticking inside the rubber hose. So, my questions are: FIRST) What is this plastic thing with two hoses? SECOND) How critical a part is this? (I've been driving the van with no problems for the past week) THIRD) Can I repair this easily, or is this yet another expensive replacement part? (i.e., Can I just "crazy glue" and be done with it, or do I need to replace the plastic thingie because the nipple is broken?) Anyhow, I look foward to everyone telling me I'm a newbie... (I know, I know!) ;-) Brian Cirulnick techrat@vm.com
