Subject: westy water tank gauge
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

Hi Volks

Was flushing the water tank the other day. I bought the van last fall and have had to insert a straw alongside the fill hose to release air. Otherwise it gurgles and bubbles and overflows. Idiosycratic, but not unusual for a VW. My bright idea was to unscrew top of tank to promote easier filling. Interesting result. Seems like the tank overflowed and ran all over the inside and then out various drain holes under the van. Oh well, I figured it would dry and I wouldn't make the mistake of leaving the large cap off again. BUT, now the LED water level indicator is inaccurate. I changes from green to yellow in about 3/4 in of float travel. The LED stays yellow until the float is about 3/4 in from bottom stop on float rod.

I'd really like to get the water level gauge reading properly. Anyone know what the deal is? Also, do I really have to stick a drinking straw beside the hose to allow air release? Thanks for any advice.
