Subject: need Vanagon diesel exhaust advice

Hi

I noticed today that the muffler and exhaust pipe connection is cracked in my '82 Vanagon. Before I replace them I thought I would check with the list to see how to proceed.

The pipe from the manifold is in good shape but the previous owner welded the end of this pipe to the muffler. The muffler is cracking in several spots.

Is it possible to use a custom muffler, cut the exhaust pipe, and connect these together with the necessary connectors, etc. or better just to replace all pieces with the stock ones?

How about prices and suppliers?

Many thanks in advance!!

Jim Snyder
