Scott, I know some German tuners put TD intercoolers in the wheel well, but I do not consider this as an optimal solution because of road spray etc. One other place that you could consider is the intake grille at the sides of the van. These sits right in the air flow, as these were originally used to suck cooling air for the air cooled Vanagons. You should also check if the oil pump can pump the oil all the way up to the grille, but the cooler would sit cold, and clean.
