If the play is not too bad, you can use Loctite 640 sleeve retainer to take up any slack. I've used it in exactly the same situation on a Lotus that I used to race, where the rear wheel bearings are pressed into alloy hub carriers - saved a ton of money! The specs for the Loctite say it can fill gaps of up to .007 inches. It's not cheap but you don't need much. Any good FLAPS should stock it.

Bjorn,

You have a spun bearing, not a good thing. It also sounds like the bearing seat in the hub wore down as well as the bore since the nut was loose. The hub is probably scrap. You might take it to a machine shop for evaluation, but I think you should start looking for a used hub assembly.

Be sure to replace the seals on both sides and just clean and re-pack the bearings that are still good with a high quality wheel bearing grease. -- Stuart MacMillan Manager, Case Program 800-909-8244, Ext. 208
