Mattel (Hot Wheels) made the first of these in 1981. It's called a "Sunagon". In addition to the pop-up plastic top, it has a small motorcycle across the back bumper. These typically came in orange/tan and light blue/medium blue and were made in Malasia. I have several of these including one still in the original package. I also have a rare purple colored one, made in India, still in it's original package. Yes, I'm a nut!
