Subject: fuel lines & unstoppable fan
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

What is it with VW fuel lines? I have never heard of fuel line problems of this magnitude with other mfg's. A friend of mine had a Jetta TDI and his lines split so often the dealer he took it to for oil changes started changing the lines (for free) with every oil change. Is it the compound, pressure, engine compartment environment? What gives?

Oh yeah, to the person with the unstoppable fan, beware. Us VR6'rs have lost a few of our kind to a faulty fan switch that wouldn't cut off. Fan eventually burns itself out and starts engine fires, usually late at night while you are asleep too. I know of a couple of folks who lost new cars this way. VW did a recall on the vehicles with the faulty fan switch. Fortunately it wasn't many, but VW seems to have a habit of taking leftover parts from earlier models and vehicles and slapping them on till they run out. I have heard that the wolfsburg versions started as a way of getting rid of leftover parts and clearing warehouse space. I haven't seen it in our Vanagon Wolfsburg, but if you look at the jetta and GTI Wolfsburg, each one seems to have different parts and components.

Mike
