I have two question for the knowledgeable people on this list.

I am replacing a leaky coolant hose on my wasserboxer. This particular hose attaches to one of the long pipes which run to the radiator.

1. Should I put some kind of sealing compound or pipe goop on before I remake the connection? What?

2. I have read that these pipes rust out occasionally. Do they rust out at the hose connection? Should I apply some kind of rust treatment before I remake the connection?

Thanks for the information.
