Karl,

Glad to hear you had an exciting trip, but sad to hear the engine kicked the bucket. I beleive that it should be possible to make a reliable and economical powerplant of the 1.9lTD for the Vanagons/ Synchros/Westy's, but it may take a lot of work and collective experience to get an optimal installation figured out. When/if you do find out what put the nail in the coffin for your engine please let us know so we don't have to learn the hard way also.

The turbo hose problems you had are quite common. I use water hose, because that's the only prebent hose I can easily buy. However, the compressed intake air gets a lot hotter under full load than water hose is made to stand, hence they tend to break.

Good luck at getting your bus running again. /Martin -- Westy 1.9l Turbo Diesel Quantum 1.6l Turbo Diesel
