Jim:

The easiest thing is to buy a tranny from and *air-cooled* Vanagon, and swap the bell-housing and input shaft. The water cooled tranny uses a different linkage- you could use it, but you would have to change all of that as well.

Due to a recent engine swap, which changed an '83 westy diesel to a turbo diesel, I am looking for higher gearing. I think some of the final drive ratios from the 1.9 water boxer would make a good gearing setup. I will buy a good transmission or consider bad one, if I could swap the ring and pinion.
