I see you have a Syncro. Be sure to get the right starter. The case length is 2 1/2". The rebuilders are supplying 2 3/4" length. This simply will not fit, unless you break up the axle lock solinoid. Many (butch) mechanics just force it. I have a Syncro Trans. in my basement and it still will not clear the the solinoid.

Battery power was ok etc. etc. After a minute or two I decided to use a bit of gentle persuasion on the starter. After a few raps with my ½ inch socket drive handle the little trouble maker got back to work with out a blink ( the van tuned over no problemmo). So now I am wondering if this starter has had a taste of freedom and will sooner, rather than later, decide to jump ship all together? Or is it that solenoid more rightly to blame for this aberrant behavior and is also ready to go? Should I be looking now for a new recruit or will I have a few more warnings before I really need to worry? > Nat > Seattle > 91 Syncro Westy >
