I had a inoperative odometer (died after working fine for 7 years and about 90k miles). It was easy to extract from the dash (just under the clip-in hood behind the steering wheel), where I found that a spindle, on which a differential-like gear was mounted, had slipped from it's mount in the speedometer housing. I simply replaced it, put a dollop of silica caulk on the head of the spindle (to keep it from slipping back through) and reassembled the dash. Has worked fine since. If you need any other details of my experience, pmailme and I'll share what I know.

I am not sure about the speedometer, but it may be related to wheel diameter. What do you presently have mounted? -- Mark A. Williamson Denver, CO 88 Wolfsburg Weekender (135K)
