Subject: 3 different fuel line sizes?
Content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

I performed a preliminary inspection under my '89 westy last weekend, to evaluate the condition of my lines, and determine what I was going to need. I was surprised to find that I have 3 different fuel line sizes! I checked my brothers '89 Carat and his was exactly the same. On the feed line (Passenger Side): 10mm from the gas tank to the pump - 10mm from pump to filter - 7mm from pump for about 3 inches, then gets converted down to about 5mm or so. This 5mm line then runs to the firewall, where it gets converted back to 7mm before it connects to the plastic line. I'm assuming it is alright to go ahead and replace the 5mm with 7mm instead of doing a similar stepping down in sizes for the run. I'd never heard this mentioned before, so I was a little surprised. TIA for any comments.

By the way, the only problem I noticed was a small amount of wetness on the hose leaving the fuel pump. My brothers van didn't have any apparent leaks. phew!! We're still planning on replacing all the lines.
