Yes, the 2,1 can take additional pressure, my 2,1 (the European 112 hp version) has a compression ratio of 10,0:1 vs 9,0:1 for the US spec engines. I do not know what makes the diference in the compression ratio, probably different pistons. I believe the combustion chamber volume is identical.
