Subject: FS 5 cyl engine/acessories

Actually the entire car, I traded a listmember a van for this about a year ago thinking I'd possibly eventually use it for a conversion, and as I needed something with better mileage than a van for a daily commute so I've been running it for a year. But medical school beckons this fall and such dreams of time and money for conversions are gone. It is a '85 VW Quantum featuring the 2.22 liter 110 hp 122 ft-lb torque KX code 5 cylinder. It has the more modern KE-Jetronic system but does not have knock sensor ignition. I have no idea how this stacks up for conversion use but it is the same as any Audi installation of the mid-late 80's. This engine is in exceptional condition runs quiet, smooth, and powerfull. The car is amazingly quick actually. A recent compression test showed an incredible 158-160 psi on all five, believeable even for its age, because it is at an actual 87,000 miles. I've personally had a Quantum with 180k before and have seen them go 250+ without the engine being touched so this has a lot of life left. Oil changes regularly at 5k intervals, new timing belt and water pump (you got to do it even though it didn't need done when you do the belt for common sense) about a year ago, new valve cover seal etc. Runs cool, uses NO oil, turns in 27-29 mpg in the Quantum, right where it should be.

Only engine related problems, oil pan gasket seeps pretty good (though never enough to show on dipstick, not worth replacing with engine in the car so I didn't) and ISV is dead and would need replaced before your installation (maybe $50 if you check around, runs fine just cold startup is a bit rough)

Now I'm selling it just for the engine, but frankly the big bonus here is the car is included runs fine has had a lot of work (wheel bearings, struts all round, CV's repacked, etc) so you can drive down drive back and take the parts off at your leisure at home not in the mud in a junkyard or chance the idiot there shorting you stuff. I intended to keep driving the thing but the A/C is dead, spedometer screwy (odo is fine, miles are accurate) and some of the power stuff as well, it just had an annoying electrical problem (fuel pump relay melted, common), and frankly it's ugly, pissed me off, and I've decided to buy something from this decade for school. For the powerplant though it is great. And you could probably sell the relatively rare 5 spd and some of the power acessories to make up cost if you were so inclined or just tow it to the yard when it's over.

Asking $750 or close reasonable offer, if you've been thinking about it, check out honest prices from yards for complete powerplants, and bear in mind you get to actually see this one run, DRIVE it, check whatever you want, then get it home the best way, under its own power, there you have no real idea of history or might be just lucky enough to do a compression check if it is still in the car.

In Clarksburg WV, will consider delivering car to metro DC, Baltimore, Pittsburg, or similar nearby areas.

This should be a fair deal for someone, I was on this list for years, a lot of people might recall I'm not always pleasant but I'm never the type to screw anyone.
