Ken,

What your father said was true, but I am working on the same project and there are two solutions:

1. cut off more of the Vanagon and modify the door as in half a sliding dor and hinges. 2. ad another set of wheels just ahead of the rear wheels and load the trailer with a generator and water tank in what use to be the engine compartment to shift the weight back.
