YUP - insurance companies are in general the slimiest
entities on earth.. Of course they don't want to pay -
you are cutting into their profit margin.
the only tips I can give are be FIRM. figure out what
the car is really worth with options, mileage,
receipts, etc. Figure out what it would cost to
replace your car with one EXACTLY like it. Bring in
classified ads, etc. Quote a higer figure, then
settle for what yours was worth.
Little known - insurance companies WILL adjust their
prices if you explain LOUDLY enough the real value of
your car. Talk to the adjusters manager, that
managers manager, until you eventually get to the
department head. Have them explain why you have been
paying insurance for years, and now they want to give
you nothing. Yelling helps, just make sure you have
the paperwork to back it up.
That;s all the help I can give... my insurance company
is probably the only one I trust... they have yet to
screw me.
