The VW battery part no.for my 87 is ...176915105E.... the battery in my van has been replace twice (DPO never disconnected it, over the 6 month winter period, it was never used every year....clock just keeps on working) The problem is... finding a battery that will fit in that space..... there are tons of batteries..... but few that supply max amps and fit in that spot.... another thing everyone might want to check.... open your battery box and look at the LID of the box....some people,(while sitting with their pass set spun around) press their feet down hard on the that lid, causing it to contact with the PLUS terminal of the battery.... check the top of your lid (inside the box).... see any arcing spots like a small spot weld? .... I had to put electrical tape on that area and over the terminal.... might have been one of the reason the PO went thru a few. .... what ever battery you buy.... make sure it fits.
