In Mexicali, just south of Calexico, CA, there are heaps of these VW buses
on the road and doing their thing. Mostly as delivery vans for florists,
bread companies, part suppliers etc. The VW dealer on the main street
(Avenita Independecia??) usually has a couple new ones on the lot. Cool to
see.

My brother has been flying helicoptors in Mexico off and on for a while,
and he stopped by a VW dealer and picked up a brochure on the transporters.
They use 1.8liter motors, but I can't tell you at this time what kind of
injection or power they have (I've forgotten almost all my spanish). I've
already got the pages scanned, I just need to get them up on my website. As
soon as I do, I'll let the list know.

The other thing my brother said regarding the busses in Mexico: seems most
of them are missing their sliding doors. He said he saw very few of them
intact. Most had sheet metal screwed in place or just wide open. Maybe he
just saw working busses around airports, etc....
