Subject: front rubber floormats for Vanagon
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

I saw a Vanagon at the Raceway Park VW show-n-go last month with fitted after-market rubber floor mats. I know some of us have been looking for rubber mats.

The guy was a vendor selling T-shirts out of his Vanagon and said he manufactures the mats. The are molded to fit around the front tire well by the front seats and the gap where the "step" is in the door opening.

Here's the catch. They're ugly IMHO. They are black rubber with big yellow cartoony letters that say "VANAGON" across them. (maybe he has other styles). Also the top half of the mat that covers the floor under the pedals has a bit of a "V" shape tapering the mats with the widest part toward the front of the bus and cuts a notch in this "V" shape on each side to about the center of the mat going from front to back. Then the mat widens out and covers the floor area as stated above. This "V" shape obiously isn't a full "V" but it notches the mat (seemingly for no reason except "design" especially on the passenger side) exposing carpet underneath in an area where your feet no doubt will be. Infact there is little doubt in my mind the back half of the mat is molded for the Vanagon, but the front half seems to be less Vanagon-specific. Maybe the notch on one side accomodates the gas pedal--and both sides are notched to make them universal for left-hand and right-hand drive.

Sorry my description is a little sketchy. I only saw them for a about a minute as it was raining, hailing, and cold.

The guy said they are manufactured specifically for the Vanagon (which they sure seemed to be) and that he manufactures them. I think he said they were somewhere around $50 for two.

I don't know this guy personally so normal disclaimers. If anyone is interested in pursuing these mats, he is:
