Find a machinist that has a right-angle drill adaptor-this is a small
gearbox that puts a second drill chuck at 90 degrees to the drill motor for
times like this. I have one that I have used many times for broken studs
like these.

+AD4- I've got an '85 Vanagon and +ACo-both+ACo- alternator bracket bolts have broken
off.
+AD4- Clearly the previous owner over tightened them when replacing the bracket.

+AD4- Given the difficulty accessing that area, does anyone have any ideas for
getting in there and drilling 'em out. One thought was drilling a 1/4+ACI- hole
in the body to pass a drill extender through...
