Despite all the bad press GEX has gotten, I also have a GEX rebuilt engine in my '76 Westy ( letters GEX are stamped in the case) Now, if the PO is to be believed, it now has almost 76K on it! When I first bought it 2 1/2 years ago, the first thing I did was to change the oil, removing the screen strainer as well. Out came chunks of what look like crumpled aluminum foil! I thought holy sh*t, I must have a bearing that has melted. Well, that was nearly 5 K miles ago, and the damn thing still runs! It has no knocking sounds, has pretty good power, compression is over 100 on all 4,but does burn a bit of oil and leaks quite a bit as well ( pushrods on the right side, have the parts, no time ) Go figure? I've heard most GEX rebuilds last between 3 to 10K miles. Despite my story, I doubt I'd buy an engine from them, I've just heard too many negative stories. Jeff S.
