Bill,

If you're removing the rear heater, it would be best to plug the two hoses rather than connect them together. If you connect them together, you will always have some coolant bypassing the radiator circuit which could be a problem in hot weather. Also, the valve in the rear heater core contains a flow restrictor to limit the flow through the core.
