I've run the Firestone Wilderness AT in this size on the '81 Westy, '85, and '87 vans with no problems whatsoever (all 2wd, '87 was even automatic). Excepting you do actually notice the gearing change, particularly on the '81 for which I deem it not acceptable with the stock engine. FWIW this is a nice bargain tire in the size as well, agressive tread, and quite a bit quieter and smoother than I expected it to be. At the time I bought it was brand new design and was going about 25% less than the BFG from Tire Rack. The tire is wearing well, which actually does seem to indicate the compound might be a little harder than you'd like for true off-roading but it still paws through stuff pretty nicely.
