Subject: Why there is a huge supply of Revel Vanagon Camper models

In the very early days of the net, not too long after the list started, somebody stumbled onto the Revel web site. Revel is the maker of plastic models, including at that time an out of production Vanagon camper model. Revel was asking visitors to vote on which of their old models to resume production of by clicking buttons next to the older models.

Somebody noticed this and went onto the Vanagon list and told the list members the deal and that if we wanted models everybody had to go over there and click.

Over the next week I was a little taken aback, as list member after list member reported that they had been over to Revel had were clicking on that button. Some reported hitting that button thirty clicks or more. I gained the impression that Revel was going to get an impression of the market demand for this item that was a little high.

It is now several years later, and I notice that hardly a week goes by without someone posting a Revel model for sale on ebay, usually at a price of around $10, which was the original offering price. I always chuckle when I see evidence of an overabundant market supply.
