Subject: 85 Exhaust bolts?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

Hi folks,

In addition to an intermittent starter, my '85 Westy suddenly developed a rather obnoxious exhaust leak.

While I was under there the other night replacing the starter, I found the leak. Both of the bolts that hold the exhaust manifold to the head (right-front, #1 cyl?) were gone, and the gasket was halfway out. This was a bit of a surprise, since I'm used to a world where header bolts are removed with liquid wrench, cursing, and scraped knuckles, not mere vibration. ;)

In any case, are these bolts in some way special, or do I just need to get a couple of grade 8.8 or whatever bolts? (stainless maybe?)

Anybody know what size they are, off hand? I'm not too keen on pulling one of the other ones to measure it...see above. ;)

Thanks in advance, Zandr '85 Westy "Thumper" --------------------------------------------------------------------- Aleksandr Milewski '90 Crystal White "Starbug" n6mod@amt.org '99 Silver/Tan "Pandora" Ben Lomond, CA President, BAMA; Admin, Miatapower
